On Saturday (November 15), Ravindra Jadeja once again got into the record books as he became only the fourth player ever to do the double of 4,000 runs and 300 wickets in Test cricket. Jadeja, the No. 1 Test all-rounder, achieved this feat during the first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens. He also become only the second Indian after Kapil Dev to achieve the feat.
On Day 2 in Kolkata, Jadeja needed just 10 more runs to cross 4,000 runs in his Test career. He did it with his typical calmness and class just before the lunch break, with India still batting to chase South Africa's first-innings total of 159.
India’s Ravindra Jadeja has now crossed 4,000 runs and 338 wickets*. So the 36-year-old who has been an integral part of the Indian Test cricket for years, hence, stands in the company of only Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, and Daniel Vettori in the achievement of such a milestone of being ace all-rounders.
Players with 4000 Test runs and 300 Test wickets
Kapil Dev (India) - 5248 runs, 434 wickets
Ian Botham (England) - 5200 runs, 383 wickets
Daniel Vettori (New Zealand) - 4531 runs, 362 wickets
Ravindra Jadeja (India) - 4000 runs, 338 wickets*
One of the records which Ravindra Jadeja has set is to be second-fastest in history to reach the double of 4,000 runs and 300-plus wickets, as he did it in his 88th Test match. The person who is only 1 position ahead of him on this list of speed is Ian Botham, who reached the same landmark in a mere 72 Tests. New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori accomplished the same feat with 4,531 runs and 362 wickets in Test cricket.
