Abhishek Sharma's explosive century, supported by disciplined bowling from Indian bowlers, led the Shubman Gill-led side to a commanding 100-run victory over Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. This win helped India level the five-match series at 1-1.
After suffering a defeat against India in the second T20I of their five-match series on Sunday, Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza praised the World Champions, acknowledging their performance as befitting their title.
"The world champions played like world champions today. Dropping catches certainly hurt us. I anticipated a score of 200 on this pitch, but they managed to add 30 runs more. As we began our chase, I expected a close contest, but unfortunately, our top-order couldn't fire," Sikandar Raza remarked after the match.
Summarizing the match, Indian skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first. India posted a formidable total of 234/2 in their allotted 20 overs, buoyed by Abhishek Sharma's brilliant century and Ruturaj Gaikwad's contributions. Rinku Singh's explosive cameo of 48 runs from just 22 balls, including five sixes and two fours at a striking rate of 218.18, further bolstered their total.
In response, Zimbabwe faced a daunting target of 235 runs but could only manage 134 before being bowled out in 18.4 overs. Opener Wessly Madhevere top-scored with 43 runs off 39 balls, supported by Luke Jongwe's 33 runs off 26 balls. However, it was not enough as they fell short against a potent Indian bowling attack.
Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar starred with the ball for India, claiming three wickets each, while Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar chipped in with two and one wicket respectively, ensuring India's victory in the match.
