The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would hope that IPL 2025 is the year when they finally lift the trophy, which has so far been elusive. The team is stacked with batting talents with Virat Kohli, who is also reported to return to captaincy, leading the chart. In addition they have shown immense faith on middle-order batter Rajit Patidar, who was one of three players to be retained.
In the auction, RCB roped in explosive England all-rounder Liam Livingstone and wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt. Meanwhile, another wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma can also prove to be an X-factor in the new franchise. Jitesh has produced some sensational finishes for Punjab Kings previously and RCB manager would hope for the same from the wicketkeeper-batter.
If we shift focus to their bowling, Josh Hazlewood appears to be a mainstay and will hope for good assist from South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi. Bhuvneshwar Kumar too will hope for some strong outing in the new franchise. The medium-pacer was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad for almost a decade but was acquired by RCB at the auction.
Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya brings in the all-round skill, which can prove handy on slow Indian tracks.
“Let’s be honest—RCB has never won the IPL. In the past, we’ve focused on spending big on a small number of players. This year, we approached it differently, aiming to assemble a balanced team rather than disproportionately spending on top-order batters as we may have done before. Jitesh Sharma is a high-quality Indian player who adds real power down the order—someone who might be able to replicate some of DK's finishing,” explained Mo Bobat, RCB's director of cricket.
