AgiBot A2, a humanoid robot developed in Shanghai, walked 106.286 km from Suzhou to Shanghai in just over 56 hours, setting a record for longest distance by a humanoid robot. Fully autonomous and equipped with AI sensors, the robot navigated streets without human guidance while displaying facial expressions to bystanders. The achievement highlights advancements in robotics, demonstrating lifelike movement and endurance, and sparks curiosity about how humanoid machines may interact with people in public and commercial settings.

In a remarkable feat of robotics, a human-shaped robot named AgiBot A2 completed an extraordinary long-distance walk across China. The journey, covering 106.286 km, has set a new record for the longest distance walked by a humanoid robot.

Epic Journey Across Cities

The autonomous robot travelled from Jingi Lake in Suzhou to Shanghai’s iconic Bund over four days. AgiBot A2 took 56 hours, 7 minutes and 49 seconds to finish its historic trek. The distance walked is roughly sixteen times longer than the length of the Las Vegas Strip. Hundreds of spectators along the route watched in astonishment as the robot moved steadily along roads and paths. Pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers could scarcely believe their eyes.

Preparation and Testing for Long-Distance Walking

Before attempting the record, engineers at Agibot Innovation (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd. prepared the robot with rigorous trials. On August 17, AgiBot A2 completed a fully autonomous 24-hour walk in temperatures near 40°C, broadcast live online. The robot was not remotely controlled, and no human guided it during the record attempt. It used its own sensors and artificial intelligence to understand the environment and avoid obstacles. Engineers emphasised testing hundreds of hours to prevent falls during the long journey.

Advanced Technology and Human-Like Interaction

AgiBot A2 features a digital screen for facial expressions, allowing it to wink and interact with bystanders. Its nearly human proportions, combined with lifelike movements, captured global attention. Observers were impressed by the robot’s fluid walking style, which closely mimics human gait. Developers hope this achievement demonstrates the potential for humanoid robots in public spaces, logistics, and long-term autonomous missions. The successful walk marks a milestone in robotics innovation and showcases the growing sophistication of AI-driven machines.
