Eclipses in 2025: Only 1 Out of 4 Visible in India

The year 2025 will witness four eclipses — two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses. However, Indian skywatchers will have limited opportunities to witness these spectacles, as only one of the four eclipses will be visible from India. Here's a breakdown of these events and their visibility:

Solar and Lunar Eclipses in 2025

DateTypeVisible in India
March 13–14, 2025Total Lunar EclipseNo
March 29, 2025Partial Solar EclipseNo
September 7–8, 2025Total Lunar EclipseYes
September 21, 2025Partial Solar EclipseNo
1. Total Lunar Eclipse: March 13–14, 2025

This year’s first eclipse is a total lunar eclipse, where the Earth’s shadow will completely cover the moon, creating the characteristic reddish hue known as the "blood moon." The eclipse will be visible across Europe, most parts of Asia, Australia, Africa, and the Americas. Unfortunately, Indian viewers will miss this stunning celestial event, as it will not be visible in the region.

2. Partial Solar Eclipse: March 29, 2025

The first solar eclipse of the year will be a partial one, where only a portion of the sun will be obscured by the moon. This event will be visible from Europe, northern Asia, North/West Africa, much of North America, and parts of northern South America. Once again, skywatchers in India will not be able to view this eclipse as it will not be visible from the country.

3. Total Lunar Eclipse: September 7–8, 2025

This is the headline celestial event for Indian stargazers in 2025. A total lunar eclipse will occur, offering a mesmerizing view of the moon bathed in an eerie reddish hue, visible across Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, parts of the Americas, and the Indian Ocean region. Unlike the earlier eclipses, this one will grace Indian skies, making it a must-watch for astronomy enthusiasts.

4. Partial Solar Eclipse: September 21, 2025

The second solar eclipse of 2025 will also be a partial one, with parts of the sun covered by the moon. It will be visible from southern Australia, the Pacific, Atlantic, and Antarctica. However, Indian audiences will once again miss this celestial phenomenon, as it will not be visible from the region.
