Raksha Bandhan Rituals and Mantras

Raksha Bandhan is more than just tying a thread; it's a vow of protection and a celebration of familial bonds. Here’s how you can perform the rituals:

  • Preparation: Begin by gathering all the necessary items: Rakhi, sweets, diya (lamp), rice, kumkum (vermilion), and a thali (plate).
  • Puja: Perform a small puja by lighting the diya and offering prayers to the deities.
  • Tying the Rakhi: The sister ties the Rakhi on her brother’s wrist while chanting the following mantra for his well-being:
"येन बद्धो बली राजा दानवेन्द्रो महाबलः |तेन त्वामभिबध्नामि रक्षे मा चल मा चल ||"

("Yena baddho Bali raaja daanavendro mahaabalah |Tena twaam anubadhnaami rakshe maa chala maa chala ||")

  • Tilak and Aarti: Apply a tilak on your brother’s forehead and perform aarti, moving the thali in a circular motion around him.
  • Sweet Exchange: Offer sweets to each other as a symbol of the sweet bond you share.
