Significance of Vidyarambham

The word ‘Vidyarambham’ literally means ‘beginning of knowledge’ (‘vidya’ = knowledge, ‘arambham’ = start). This day is dedicated to seeking blessings from Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, and expressing gratitude through offerings to teachers (Gurudakshina). Vidyarambham emphasizes the importance of education and intellectual growth for children and is celebrated across all communities in southern India. Major temples like Thunchan Parambu in Kerala and Kollur Mookambika Temple in Karnataka are famous for hosting these ceremonies.
