What is Pradosha Vrat?

Pradosha Vrat, also known as Pradosham, is observed twice a month on the Trayodashi Tithi of both Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. The day is considered sacred because the Trayodashi Tithi overlaps with the Pradosha Kaal (the time just after sunset) which is the ideal period for Lord Shiva worship.

Devotees perform Shiva Abhishekam with milk, curd, honey, and water, and offer Bilva leaves, fruits, and incense to the Lord. It is believed that those who perform the Pradosha Puja during this auspicious window are freed from sins and blessed with happiness and prosperity.

Significance of Soma Pradosha Vrat

When Pradosha Vrat falls on a Monday, it is known as Soma Pradosha. Since Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva, this day holds double the spiritual significance. Observing Soma Pradosham is believed to bring:

  • Peace of mind and relief from mental stress.
  • Harmony and love in married life.
  • Family happiness and financial stability.
  • Protection from negative influences caused by malefic effects of the Moon (Chandra Dosh) in one’s horoscope.

According to Vedic astrology, the Soma Pradosha fast strengthens the Moon’s position in the Kundali, helping one overcome emotional instability, anxiety, and confusion.
