Shravana Putrada Ekadashi 2024: Fasting Rules- Fasting Day: On August 16, 2024, observe the fast from sunrise to the next sunrise. The fast begins on Ekadashi and continues until Dwadashi.
- Parana: Break the fast (Parana) after sunrise on August 17, 2024. It is essential to complete Parana within the Dwadashi Tithi unless Dwadashi ends before sunrise.
- Avoid Hari Vasara: Hari Vasara is the first one-fourth duration of Dwadashi Tithi. Do not break the fast during this time. Wait for Hari Vasara to end before breaking the fast.
- Preferred Time: The most auspicious time to break the fast is Pratahkal (early morning). If not possible, do it after Madhyahna (midday), but avoid breaking the fast-during Madhyahna if possible.
Do's- Cleanse Yourself: Begin your day with a bath and wear clean clothes. It’s customary to use a new or freshly laundered outfit for the fasting day.
- Worship Lord Vishnu: Offer prayers and perform aarti to Lord Vishnu. Recite the appropriate prayers and hymns dedicated to Lord Vishnu for the blessings of a child.
- Maintain Silence: Maintain a calm and serene atmosphere. Avoid unnecessary talking and engage in spiritual activities.
- Use Fresh Ingredients: Prepare your meal with fresh, sattvic (pure) ingredients. Traditionally, the fast includes consuming fruits, milk, and certain root vegetables.
- Charity and Good Deeds: It is highly recommended to give to the needy and perform good deeds as part of your fast.
Don'ts- Avoid Grains and Beans: Do not consume grains, pulses, or beans on Ekadashi. Stick to fruits, milk, and light meals as permitted.
- No Alcohol or Non-Vegetarian Food: Abstain from consuming alcohol and non-vegetarian food.
- Refrain from Overindulgence: Avoid eating excessively even if you consume allowed items. Maintain moderation in your intake.
- Don’t Break the Fast During Inauspicious Times: Avoid breaking the fast during Hari Vasara and Madhyahna if possible. If unavoidable, ensure to complete Parana after Hari Vasara and preferably in the early morning.
- Avoid Arguments and Conflicts: Maintain a peaceful environment around you. Refrain from engaging in arguments or conflicts on this sacred day.
