Shravana Putrada Ekadashi 2024: Fasting Rules
  • Fasting Day: On August 16, 2024, observe the fast from sunrise to the next sunrise. The fast begins on Ekadashi and continues until Dwadashi.
  • Parana: Break the fast (Parana) after sunrise on August 17, 2024. It is essential to complete Parana within the Dwadashi Tithi unless Dwadashi ends before sunrise.
  • Avoid Hari Vasara: Hari Vasara is the first one-fourth duration of Dwadashi Tithi. Do not break the fast during this time. Wait for Hari Vasara to end before breaking the fast.
  • Preferred Time: The most auspicious time to break the fast is Pratahkal (early morning). If not possible, do it after Madhyahna (midday), but avoid breaking the fast-during Madhyahna if possible.
Do's
  1. Cleanse Yourself: Begin your day with a bath and wear clean clothes. It’s customary to use a new or freshly laundered outfit for the fasting day.
  2. Worship Lord Vishnu: Offer prayers and perform aarti to Lord Vishnu. Recite the appropriate prayers and hymns dedicated to Lord Vishnu for the blessings of a child.
  3. Maintain Silence: Maintain a calm and serene atmosphere. Avoid unnecessary talking and engage in spiritual activities.
  4. Use Fresh Ingredients: Prepare your meal with fresh, sattvic (pure) ingredients. Traditionally, the fast includes consuming fruits, milk, and certain root vegetables.
  5. Charity and Good Deeds: It is highly recommended to give to the needy and perform good deeds as part of your fast.
Don'ts
  1. Avoid Grains and Beans: Do not consume grains, pulses, or beans on Ekadashi. Stick to fruits, milk, and light meals as permitted.
  2. No Alcohol or Non-Vegetarian Food: Abstain from consuming alcohol and non-vegetarian food.
  3. Refrain from Overindulgence: Avoid eating excessively even if you consume allowed items. Maintain moderation in your intake.
  4. Don’t Break the Fast During Inauspicious Times: Avoid breaking the fast during Hari Vasara and Madhyahna if possible. If unavoidable, ensure to complete Parana after Hari Vasara and preferably in the early morning.
  5. Avoid Arguments and Conflicts: Maintain a peaceful environment around you. Refrain from engaging in arguments or conflicts on this sacred day.

By following these guidelines, you can observe Putrada Ekadashi with devotion and adherence to tradition, seeking blessings for a child and spiritual well-being.
