Saving Greece: Unpopular Property Tax passed

Greek lawmakers have approved an unpopular property tax law.

All 154 of the ruling socialist PASOK party's deputies voted in favour of the measure, winning a majority in the 300-seat parliament.

The approval to the tax law was crucial to a new austerity campaign that the government has proposed, so it can meet the terms of its international bailout and continue receiving aid funds.

Further controversial fiscal measures may have to be taken, aimed at appeasing the Troika (the International Monetary Fund, the European Union and the European Central Bank) in the coming weeks to secure the release of a new tranche of international aid.
