What is 'Twinkle Laddoo' and why is it trending on Twitter? Hint: There's cashback involved

An unlikely trend is climbing up the Twitter charts – Twinkle laddoos. For the unversed, Google Pay, Alphabet’s UPI payment app in India, has introduced a fun new game – to collect six types of virtual laddoos from October 21 to November 7 on the occasion of Diwali which will make you eligible for Rs 1,001 cashback.

Users can collect the laddoos – Color, Foodie, Disco, Dosti, Trendy and Twinkle – by making payments to vendor, via credit card, recharges and even payments to friends. Apart from this, you can request or gift any laddoo in your collection to your friends.

But why is ‘Twinkle’ laddoo trending? The elusive laddoo is hard to get, according to several users who have still not been able to bag one.

So users have now taken to Twitter to crack jokes or just plain show their frustration or desperation to the get the last laddoo that will make them eligible for the cashback.

“Anyone have any extra twinkle laddoo please send, manifesting next BTS concert ticket for anyone who does,” one user wrote.

Many shared screenshots of their collected Twinkle laddoo and offered to share in return of a likes or followers.

Several users also shared the cashback they received after collecting all six types of virtual laddoos. One user got a cashback of Rs 927.

Gold insurance, Amazon Pay gift card do not quality for laddoo reward on Google Pay. There is also a limit of one laddoo reward daily for each payment. You cannot earn multiple laddoos for multiple payments to the same friend, the same day.
