As heavy rain lashed several parts of Kerala till Sunday, Technopark, the first IT park in the state and India’s first of its kind, was among the areas in state capital Thiruvananthapuram that saw massive flooding.
Many areas of Thiruvananthapuram, the southernmost Kerala district, were waterlogged and flooded on Sunday. Water did not recede from certain areas, leading to rescheduling and delaying of trains. However, as the rains abated briefly on Monday, water receded from most of the areas which were flooded and waterlogged.
On Sunday, several women students had to be rescued in boats from their flooded hostel to safer areas, Asianet News reported.
In the Technopark colony in Kazhakootam, a suburban area in Thiruvananthapuram, water entered homes, leading to people being evacuated.

Visuals also showed people wading through waist-deep water in Thiruvananthapuram.
The weather department said there were cyclonic circulations over coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbourhoods as well as over the Lakshadweep area, adjoining the Southeast Arabian sea and the Kerala coast. Under their influence, light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty wind and lightning were likely at many places in Kerala on Monday and Tuesday, it said. On Sunday, an orange alert was issued in four - Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha - and a yellow alert in eight districts of the state.
