Author and anchor Vir Sanghvi has shared an appreciation post for the passport process in the country after he received his document within 24 hours of applying for it.

"We don’t realise how fortunate we are in India to have one of the world’s most efficient passport processes. In few countries will you get a new passport in a couple of days," he wrote on X. "At least in Delhi, the passport offices have actually got more citizen-friendly over the last year."

In a separate post, Sanghvi added, "It took less than 24 hours before mine was delivered home by speed post."

Several X users agreed with the author and shared similar experiences.

"Indeed. I applied for my mother under the Tatkal scheme, and to my surprise, within 24 hours on Saturday (weekend), a police officer came to our house and did all due diligence. The passport was received in less than five working days. There has been a massive positive change in the past few years," wrote Chit Dubey (@ChitDubey).

Another user Aravind @aravind wrote, "I heard from a friend senior citizen they got it on the same day due to some senior citizen expedited handling. Since the government started improving passport centres and processes from 2016 or so, there are very few issues with touts, bribes, and other things as well. Indian passport offices are better than the best in the world. Few Indians know this. Good, you brought it out."

Last year, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had informed the Lok Sabha that the average time that the Ministry takes to issue the passport is 7-10 days. Those opting for tatkaal get their document in 1-3 days. “The average time taken for the issuance of passports (excluding police verification time) is 7-10 days for normal passports and 1-3 days for tatkaal passports,” the minister had said.
