Weighing options for summer holidays 2024? Consider these lists for the best surfing locations in India and abroad, best countries for foodies, best restaurants, best Indian off-the-beaten-track destinations:

1. For an off-the-beaten path summer holiday, consider visiting Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh; Mawlynnong, Meghalaya; Auli, Uttarakhand; Munnar, Kerala; Coorg, Karnataka or Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh.

2. Thrills and tranquility in equal measure, surfing offers a chance to become immersed in nature's power. These are some of the finest Indian and international destinations for surfing:

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: Havelock Island has some world-class left-hand breaks appropriate for intermediate to advanced surfers. The best time to visit is November-May.

Indonesia: Best time to surf in Bali is between April and October.

Mangalore’s coastline features consistent waves and numerous surf schools, ideal for beginners. Gokarna has a relaxed hippie vibe. Best surfing time in both places is from October to May.

Sri Lanka: Arugam Bay is known for its long right-hand point break, good for intermediate and advanced surfers.

Tamil Nadu: Mahabalipuram is an excellent spot for beginners; Covelong beach has more challenging waves for experienced surfers.

Australia: Sydney’s coastline and 70 beaches offer a range from gentle beginner waves to world-class barrels.

3. Eating local food is a great way to experience any new location and culture on all your travels. But if you travel for the love of food, consider these foodie paradises:

Italy: From hearty, tomato-based sauces of Naples to the cheesy pastas of Rome, and the fresh seafood of coastal regions, this country has a diverse culinary landscape.

Japan: Fresh, seasonal ingredients and thoughtfully curated presentation are par for course here. Sushi, sashimi ramen, and tempura are just a few of the must-try dishes in Japan. Ask for a traditional Japanese tasting menu. While in Tokyo, try the pizza, too.

Mexico: In addition to tacos, burritos, and mole, try regional specialties like Oaxacan tlayudas (giant tortillas) and Yucatecan cochinita pibil (slow-roasted meat).

Thailand: Thai food is an elegant balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavours. Pad thai, tom yum soup, and red curry are well-loved dishes, but there's much more to explore. Regional specialties like Isaan som tam (papaya salad) and Chiang Mai khao soi (coconut curry noodles) hit the spot.

Greece: Expect fresh, Mediterranean flavours, with olive oil, herbs, and seafood. Souvlaki (grilled skewers), moussaka (eggplant casserole), and dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) are just a few of the noteworthy dishes.
