Whether you have visited Kerala or not, almost everyone is aware about how magnificent “Gods own country” is. From its tranquil backwaters to sumptuous Malabari cuisine there are zillions of reasons to love Kerala. But wait a minute; unlike other travel blogs I’m not going to talk about the “Top 10 Reasons to visit Kerala.” Disappointed”? Don’t be, because you are soon going to discover far more interesting things that are peculiar to this land.
Kerala, is now known as one of the best holiday destinations in India. Its eminence got me thinking about what are the things that actually made this place so famous and memorable. Apart from its warm hearted people and sumptuous Malabari food, there are quite a few things which add on to its charm and reputation. (And yes, when I state that, it doesn’t include the efforts of state tourism board for promoting Kerala as Gods own country.) So what is it? What is it that is strongly associated with this land? ...
The Moustache Madness

If a state has to choose a symbol that stands for itself, Kerala will without a doubt choose “Moustache” as its icon. You will find Keralite men flaunting their thick moustache almost across every street. For them it’s the symbol of pride. The thicker and longer the moustache; the higher is the self-esteem. I vouch, that the Moustache Madness will never fade away.
The “Wrap Around”

No we aren’t talking about the wrap around skirts here the Lungis that Mallu’s love. And it’s not just any Lungi, but a pure white Veshti with broad golden border that reminds us of Kerala. This flowy silhouette is loved by men, regardless of their age. From teens to senior men, the Lungi till date remains their favourite outfit because nothing else is as breezy and comfortable as these bottoms.
Close to God:
If you fail to notice a temple, church or mosque within 5 kms of your vicinity, then you have probably landed in a different state and not in Kerala. Mind it, as it’s not a hyperbole. There are more than 108 Shiva Temples in Kerala. Now that makes us wonder about total number of shrines in this holy land.
Holistic Wellness:
It’s been decades that people in India moved away from Ayurveda and switched to alternate medicines. But unlike other states, Kerala till date is known for practicing Ayurveda as mainstream medicine. People from worldwide associate Ayurveda to Kerala, and vice-a versa. Its coastal climate is apt for the growth of medicinal herbs. Ayurvedic treatments like Shirodhara, Panchakarma and Nasya has given great boost to Medical tourism in Kerala.
Holy Beast:

Mallus not only love, but have been worshipping Elephants for centuries. And it doesn’t stop here; Elephants are titled as state animal and are also a part of the emblem of Kerala government. Now that’s what we call “unconditional and eternal love.” If you haven’t had Elephant Shower at Thekady in Kerala, then you are missing on something big.
