Satish Kaushik dies at 66. Tributes pour in for the veteran actor

Veteran actor Satish Kaushik died on March 8 after suffering a heart attack. He was 66. Tributes poured in from colleagues in the film industry.

Veteran actor Satish Kaushik died on March 8 after suffering a heart attack. He was 66. Kaushik was reportedly in Gurgaon when his health began to deteriorate, the Indian Express reported. His mortal remains will be brought to Mumbai after a post-mortem is performed.

An alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD), Satish Kaushik had a stellar career in the Hindi film industry that spanned nearly three decades. His breakout role was Calendar in Mr India (1987), and he went on to star in several critical and commercial hits. He was also a director with more than 15 films to his credit, including Tere Naam, Badhaai Ho Badhaai and Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain.

Satish Kaushik’s death was announced by his longtime friend, actor Anupam Kher, on Twitter. Kher, who had been his batchmate at NSD, said that their friendship of 45 years had been cut short abruptly. “Life will never be the same without you Satish,” he wrote.



Tributes began pouring in for the Satish Kaushik from industry colleagues, leaders and politicians.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences to Kaushik's family and praised him as a "creative genius"


Union Home Minister Amit Shah said he was deeply saddened by actor's sudden demise and offered his condolences to the family.



Actor Kangana Ranaut, who worked with him in Judgementall Hai Kya, hailed Kaushik as “a very successful actor and director” and a “very kind and genuine man.”


Director Madhur Bhandarkar remembered him as someone “who was always vibrant, energetic and full of life.”


Satish Kaushik was born on April 13, 1956. An alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD) and Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), he started his career in theatre before moving on to film and television roles. He is best known for his roles in movies like Udta Punjab, Jamai Raja, Ram Lakhan, Gharwali Baharwali and Baaghi 3, among others.
