UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was briefly locked out of 10 Downing Street, his official residence in London, while hosting Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. The incident happened on Friday while the two leaders were posing for photographs outside No 10.
In a video that has gone viral online, Sunak was seen welcoming Rutte and the duo later posed for photographs. The two were also seen chatting while waiting for the door to get opened as the media snapped pictures.
When no one appeared for several seconds, Sunak was seen placing his hand on the door as Rutte looked into the windows. Sunak followed suit in the hope of catching someone’s attention. The door eventually opened from the inside.

Meanwhile, according to an official press release, the two leaders had met to discuss the importance of tackling the “scourge of illegal migration” and the Rwanda policy. “The Prime Minister updated Prime Minister Rutte on the recent steps the UK has taken on this, including our Rwanda policy and Illegal Migration Act.”
The meeting comes as Sunak faces opposition over his new anti-immigration plan.
As per the release, Sunak and his Dutch counterpart also discussed a range of geopolitical issues, including the situation in the Middle East. “They expressed regret at the breakdown of the pause in fighting to release hostages and agreed that it was vital that more aid was able to get into Gaza, including by exploring new routes,” the release added.
