Revealed: How Jeff Bezos proposed to Lauren Sanchez with a massive pink diamond

Tabloids this summer were full of photographs of Jeff Bezos and fiancée Lauren Sanchez as they sailed across Europe in their mega-yacht Koru. But even as the paparazzi trained their lenses on the power couple, it was Sanchez’s massive engagement ring – featuring a massive pink diamond – that stole the spotlight over and over again.

The diamond, reportedly a 20-carat specimen, generated massive interest – but details were not forthcoming from either Bezos, 59, or Sanchez, 53. Even so, friends of the couple confirmed their engagement to several entertainment portals – and in August, they hosted an engagement celebration on board their $500 million yacht that was attended by Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Queen Rania of Jordan, among other high-profile guests.

Now, Sanchez, a former newscaster, has revealed details of her engagement and how Bezos proposed for the very first time in an interview with Vogue.

According to the Vogue article, Jeff Bezos proposed to Lauren Sanchez by hiding the ring under her pillow after an intimate dinner. She found it at bedtime after taking her makeup off, and her reaction was one of stunned disbelief.

“When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit,” Sanchez told Vogue.

They have been engaged for five months, but haven’t yet settled on a wedding date. “We’re still thinking about the wedding,” Sanchez told Vogue. “What it’s going to be. Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet. We’ve only been engaged five months!”

Asked if she will take her husband’s last name after the wedding, Sanchez said: “Uh, yes, one hundred percent. I am looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos.” But she acknowledges that marrying one of the world’s richest men will come with its own set of responsibilities and challenges.

“I think there are a lot of opportunities that come with that, and I take those opportunities very seriously. We always look at each other and go, ‘We’re the team.’ So everything’s shared,” said Sanchez.

And will the Amazon billionaire be involved in planning the wedding? “Oh, God, no. Do I look that dumb?” Bezos reportedly said, laughing, when asked this question.

Bezos and Sanchez have reportedly been dating since 2018, but only went public with their relationship once the Amazon billionaire’s divorce from his first wife MacKenzie Scott was finalised in 2019.
