Monkey menace is quite common in a number of Indian cities. Among them are Mathura and Vrindavan too. There have been several incidents where monkeys have snatched personal belongings of travellers. From water bottles, food to spectacles, monkeys have been bribed to return the items in a number of ways.
In a similar incident that happened at the Sri Rangnath Ji Mandir earlier this month, a monkey snatched a devotee’s iPhone. A video shared on Instagram by a user named Vikas showed two monkeys perched atop the temple. One of them had the man’s iPhone.
A few inches south, a crowd had gathered around in an attempt to help the man. Another man from the group was seen throwing a pack of juice in the direction of the monkeys. He tried once and the one the second time one of the simians caught it. Almost in an instant, it threw the iPhone down.
The phone was caught by the man and the crowd was seen clapping. “iPhone sold in one Frooti,” read the caption of the post.
Since being shared online, the clip has clocked in over eight million views and hundreds of reactions from social media users.
“Vrindavan monkeys are best traders,” a user wrote. Another user commented, “They know the business more than us.”
A number of Instagram users shared their own experience with monkeys as well. One user wrote, “They stole my father’s spectacles once.”
“Got my shoe back for a Frooti yesterday,” another user claimed. A user called it a “barter system” as well.
