Art Mumbai 2023: The first edition of the Mumbai art fair from Nov 16-19 will feature works by 300 artists and 53 galleries in addition to panel discussions and walkthroughs with curators. Here's what not to miss

Mumbai is all set for the first edition of Art Mumbai - featuring 53 art galleries from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata as well as galleries from the US, UK and Dubai - November 16-19. Also on the programme are panel discussions, walkthroughs with curators, and an impressive line-up of artists, in what promises to be an immersive affair.

Art Mumbai is conceived and promoted by Minal Vazirani, Dinesh Vazirani, Nakul Dev Chawla and Conor Macklin, along with a team comprising Rhea Kuruvilla, Teesta Bhandare and Sumanth Ram, each of whom has experience in different facets of the art ecosystem.

Delhi's Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) is a presenting partner for the Art Mumbai Programme, which will have a range of panel discussions, live events, and performances.

Culture with Karan

November 18, 5.30 pm, Mahalaxmi Racecourse

Over cups of coffee, filmmaker Karan Johar, who is also the cultural ambassador of Art Mumbai, will talk about all things art, culture and cinema with Dinesh Vazirani.

A Moving Art Installation by Tarun Tahiliani

November 16, 7.30 pm, Mahalaxmi Racecourse

Fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani will launch his coffee table book ‘Tarun Tahiliani: Journey to India Modern’, which explores his love for fashion, history, culture and craft. And because this is Tahiliani, there will also be a moving art installation which will showcase his fashion journey and iconic designs, followed by a DJ set by Ma Faiza.

Women to Watch (Speaker Series)

November 17, 12 noon, Mahalaxmi Racecourse

Veerangana Solanki will moderate a conversation between five artists and the India committee of the seventh edition of the Women to Watch, an exhibition that will be hosted in 2024 by the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington (NMWA). The speakers at the discussion are Ilene Gutman, Rajyashri Goody, Prajakta Potnis, Prarthna Singh, Ayesha Singh, Farah Mulla and Minal Vazirani.

Launch of Jogen Chowdhury’s book Shadow Lines: Tracing the Journey

November 17, 4.30 pm, Mahalaxmi Racecourse

The book launch will be followed by a discussion between artist Jogen Chowdhury and editor Soumik Nandy Majumdar, on the artist’s life and art. The book will be launched by Kiran Nadar.

Tour of the Living Museum at the Chanakya School of Craft

November 18, 11 am, Lower Parel

There will be a tour showcasing the works of master artisans at the Chanakya School of Craft, followed by a conversation on craft and community with Karishma Swali, artistic director of Chanakya International and School of Craft and Minal Vazirani, co-founder, Art Mumbai.

South Asia and the World (Speaker Series)

November 18, 3.30 pm, Mahalaxmi Racecourse

Moderated by Deepanjana Klein, a panel of speakers including Rajeeb Samdani, Giulia Ambrogi and Inakshi Sobti will look at the potential of the burgeoning art scene of South Asia, which is rapidly gaining importance within global conversations around art and culture.

Art Mumbai is on from November 16-19 at Mahalaxmi Racecourse. The speaker series and panel discussions will be held across the city from November 17-19. Tickets available on Insider.in
