An Indian-origin founder and CEO -- whose startup is building an advanced filterless air purification system -- claimed that an IIT Kanpur graduate who had applied to him for a job did not know about 95 percent of the things he mentioned in his resume.

California-based Angad Daryani said, "Candidate from IIT Kanpur who applied on our website, had mentioned 100 things on his resume, of which he knew five. He had four offers from other companies based on these 100 listed things, and when we quickly picked on the fact that he didn't actually know 95 percent of the things on his resume, he said, 'Oh wow, I respect you, now I want to work in your company.' What are they teaching at the IITs?"

Interestingly, Daryani's original tweet which went viral stated that the candidate was from IIT Kharagpur. He later issued a clarification and admitted to the "slip up". IIT Kharagpur also took cognisance of the incident.

"With regards to the candidate, it was my slip up looking at the IITK email address, the candidate was from the Kanpur campus and not Kharagpur campus, nonetheless we still spoke with him, have encouraged him to clean up his resume, learn few more things and write back to us to be re-evaluated as a mechanical engineer," Daryani wrote on Wednesday.

On Monday, The Praan founder had shared that his company has zero hires from IITs.

Elaborating on his previous experiences, Daryani said that in the first case an IIT Kharagpur senior year candidate who was the CEO-founder of a company in the same space, hid that from his LinkedIn, got hired, joined Praan downloaded confidential data and quit three days later. He then proceeded to update his LinkedIn bio as the co-founder of a different company.

In the second incident, an IIT Guwahati PhD candidate allegedly did not have the basic hands-on lab skills in chemical engineering despite it being mentioned on resume.

"IIT Bombay graduate joined us remotely, learned things for 45 days, used that to apply for another job at a competitor before he could join us in person, despite our 75 percent pay increment," Daryani said narrating the third incident.

Correction: This copy was updated after Angad Daryani admitted that the first candidate he was referring to was from IIT Kanpur and not IIT Kharagpur.
