RPG Group chairperson Harsh Goenka has pointed out that the air quality levels of a cremation ground in Gurgaon were much better than that of the city and even Delhi.
"If you are in Gurgaon/Delhi area and you want to be where the pollution (AQI level) is low, I have a suggestion where to go," he wrote on X with a screenshot a real-time pollution level list of Gurgaon's locations in which areas like DLF phase 1 and 2 had a "hazardous" AQI of 584 and 563, while that of the cremation ground was moderate at 95.

Goenka's observation amused X users.
"Sir, I'm replying from there only. It’s fresh out here. I thought the smoke from cremation would be toxic but It’s refreshing. Yours faithfully, recently-cremated body due to pollution-related illness," commented Sarcastic Dinesh (@SarcasticDinesh). Another user Vivek (@vivekdwivedi07) wrote, "Good strategy, jana toh wahi hai [that's where we'll end up] finally toh advance planning will help."
"Could we divert some pollution towards cremation ground to spread pollution evenly? Why should dead have all the fun?" a third user Potassium Cyanide (@zippynathan1974) added.
Last week, the authorities in Gurgaon implemented urgent measures to address an air quality crisis and requested private organisations and multinational corporations to adopt a 50 percent work-from-home policy. "This is crucial in combating "severe+" air quality levels and supporting the Grap measures to improve air quality in the region," Ajay Kumar, deputy commissioner of Gurugram, wrote on X.
Schools in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) were also asked to conduct classes in hybrid mode.
