The finale day of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is here. Cricket fans all over the country are waiting in anticipation for the clash between India and Australia. The match is scheduled to take place today at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium and several personalities will be in attendance.
Google too marked the day with a creative doodle. The animated doodle had the World Cup in the middle and a revolving bat as well.
This year, India hosted ten national squads including Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma has not lost a single match in the entire tournament. The “Boys in Blue” won the last semi-final match against New Zealand by a whopping 70 runs.
The match also saw records being broken and created. Virat Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record by scoring his 50th ODI century. Mohammed Shami, on the other hand, took an impressive 7 wickets and became the first Indian baller to do so. He became the first Indian bowler to pick up 50 wickets in the ODI World Cup.
He also became the fastest bowler to get 50 wickets in the ODI World Cup. He also broke a 48-year-old record set by Australia’s Gary Gilmour way back in 1975.
Shami also created a record for most five-wicket hauls in the history of World Cups.
Meanwhile, India faced Australia in the World Cup final in 2003 as well. However, the team lost by 125 runs, making Australia the first team to win three consecutive World Cups.
