Google users were greeted by a pleasant surprise on April 24, 2025. To commemorate the final half moon of April, the tech giant rolled out an interactive Doodle. This tongue-in-cheek tribute brought back the popular lunar card game series.
The game, Rise of the Half Moon April, lets users gauge their moon knowledge. The aim is simple—match the correct lunar phases and outsmart the Moon.
Match Phases and Earn Points
Google’s Doodle page explains the latest version of the game. “Join the celestial card game where players must connect the phases,” the team said. Players are encouraged to challenge the Half Moon in the challenge of the month.
A hand of identical moon-phase cards is available at the beginning of every game. The players who match the phases are rewarded with points and the opening of new levels. As a special treat, experienced players can even get wildcards as a reward.
The Doodle can be accessed on both mobile and desktop devices. High scores can be shared online, adding a competitive twist.
The Moon is Pink This Month
April’s full moon is known as the Pink Moon. According to tradition, it's named after pink wildflowers blooming in spring. Players are encouraged not to “wilt” under its glow, but to rise to the lunar challenge.
Google’s interactive card game celebrates this seasonal shift with style. A world map on the doodle page shows where it has appeared globally.
Since the first Doodle in 1998, these animated logos have entertained millions. They continue to combine creativity with education and a touch of fun.
