Google has marked India’s 78th Independence Day with a specially crafted Doodle. This year’s Doodle, illustrated by the Vrinda Zaveri, captures the essence of India’s architectural marvels with six doors.
The Doodle, which greets millions of users on Google’s homepage, features six intricately designed doors and windows, each representing the diverse styles of architecture found across the country. The Doodle also incorporates the peacock, the national bird, nestled within the design.
Google's announcement on its Doodle platform describes this creative piece: “Today’s Doodle, illustrated by Vrinda Zaveri, celebrates Independence Day in India! On this day in 1947, India gained its freedom from colonial rule.” The statement further elaborated on the Doodle’s theme, stating, “Homes, buildings, streets, and cars are decorated with the saffron, white, and green national flag — as seen in today’s artwork.”
Across the country, Independence Day is marked with various festivities, including flag-raising ceremonies, parades, musical performances, and community rallies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort for the 11th consecutive time on the occasion of Independence Day.
The journey to India’s independence was marked by years of relentless effort by freedom fighters who fought against British rule. Their struggle included both nonviolent protests and revolutionary actions, led by figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, and many others. On August 15, 1947, India finally gained independence, with Jawaharlal Nehru becoming the first Prime Minister. His famous speech, ‘Tryst with Destiny,’ marked the beginning of a new era for India.
