A senior employee at Amazon has revealed that he has been collecting a significant salary without contributing meaningful work to the company for over a year and a half. The confession, made on the anonymous professional forum Blind, has garnered widespread attention.
The individual, who holds the position of Senior Technical Program Manager at Amazon, stated that he joined the company with the intention of doing minimal work while drawing a substantial salary. His total compensation reportedly amounts to $370,000 per year (Rs 3,10,39,263). The employee disclosed that despite his high salary, he has achieved no significant goals and has engaged in minimal tasks, successfully evading detection by his superiors.
"I joined Amazon 1.5 years ago after being laid off from Google," the employee wrote on Blind. "I joined with the intention of doing ‘nothing,’ getting free money, and eventually getting put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)." He further mentioned that during his tenure, he has only completed seven support tickets and developed a single automated dashboard, which he misleadingly claimed took three months to build, when in fact it was created in just three days using ChatGPT.

The employee explained that his daily routine mainly involves attending meetings and deflecting work requests from other teams. "My current day-to-day is saying no to other teams wanting to integrate with my team or having them own 95%+ of the integration work," he stated.
The revelation has sparked debate on social media, with users expressing a range of opinions. Some criticised the employee’s actions, suggesting they undermine the integrity of the workforce, while others argued that it reflected a broader issue within corporate structures.
One X user commented, “These people are ruining the game for everyone else that actually wants to work and earn an honest day's pay.”
"What. How is that possible? And why would anyone go down such a sad, boring path? What do they do all day? No goals?" one user added. A user remarked, "There is more to life than scamming people and abusing their trust."
Another user took a different stance, saying, “When the game is rigged, exploit the game.”
Some social media users also supported the employee. "People that are butthurt about this: 99% of you corporate peons are useless and in denial. If you work a lot, you are either just inefficient, or keeping yourself busy with random BS. If you genuinely believe you should work 8-10h per day you drank the corporate kool aid."
"I worked a job where I knew I was working on a product that would eventually be shut down. I put in almost no effort and no one cared because it was pretty obvious that it was a dead product. Organizational failure is so fascinating," one person wrote.
Meanwhile, Amazon has not yet commented on the employee’s claims.
