As India mourned the passing of Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, employees from across the Tata Group shared their reflections on the values that the industrialist instilled in his companies. Known for his visionary leadership, compassion, and integrity, Tata’s legacy continues to shape the culture within his conglomerate, even after his death.
Former employees of Tata Cliq, the e-commerce platform under Tata Group, spoke to Business Insider India about how his principles of respect, transparency, and social responsibility were deeply embedded in the company’s work culture, even though many had never met him personally.
Bharti Chhikara, a former Assistant Category Manager at Tata Cliq, recalled the touching moment when her parents received a letter from the company thanking them for their support. “My parents received a letter from the Chief People Officer at Tata Cliq when I joined, acknowledging their sacrifices in helping me get to that point. It was an emotional moment for the entire family and spoke volumes about the culture Ratan Tata had created within his organisation,” she said, Business Insider India reported.
Sreyashi Ghosh, who worked at Tata Cliq as a copywriter, echoed similar sentiments. She emphasised how the organisation valued creativity and upheld the principles championed by Ratan Tata. Ghosh noted, “His leadership left an indelible mark on the Tata Group. Working in an environment where integrity and community support were prioritised was rewarding. His legacy will continue to inspire us all.”
Rachit Tandon, a former Category Manager at Tata Cliq, also reflected on Tata’s influence. “During my time at Tata Cliq, I witnessed the remarkable work culture that reflected Ratan Tata’s principles of integrity and innovation. It was a privilege to work in a company that cared deeply for its employees and communities,” he said, according to a report in Business Insider India. Tandon added that he would carry those values forward in his career, acknowledging that Tata’s impact would be felt for generations to come.
Ratan Tata passed away at the age of 86 in Mumbai on October 9. He was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital.
