Mumbai Police has provided Shah Rukh Khan with Y-Plus security cover, after the Bollywood superstar received multiple threats following his last two films doing blockbuster business.
Going ahead, Khan will be escorted by six police commandos, who will be with him at all times throughout the country, according to a notification from the Mumbai Police. The bodyguards will be from a trained VIP security unit, a special protection unit of Maharashtra Police.
The security personnel will be armed with MP-5 machine guns, AK-47 assault rifles and Glock pistols, the Police said while adding that Khan’s residence will also have four armed policemen at all times.
“All unit commanders are requested to provide him (Khan) Y+ with scale of security on payment basis with immediate effect, till next high level committee recommendation and review committee decision, during his visit/engagements and stay in your jurisdiction to avoid any untoward incident,” the Mumbai Police said in the notification addressed to all police jurisdictions in Maharashtra.
Shah Rukh Khan will be paying for this security cover, the Police said. The government police security is being provided since India doesn’t allow private security to be armed with sophisticated weapons, they added.
Khan’s high-octane thriller Jawan and action film Pathaan have both earned more than Rs 1,000 crore gross at worldwide box office, with the former still going strong at the theatres.
