Dinesh Phadnis, the actor who played the role of Fredericks in one of the most watched Indian shows in history "CID" died at the age of 57 on Tuesday.
The news of the actor's death was confirmed by one of his co-stars in the show Dayanand Shetty, who essayed the role of Daya. "Dinesh breathed his last at 12.08 am," he told The Indian Express.
The actor was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Sunday and was put on a ventilator. Shetty refused to comment further on the treatment given to him.
"Dinesh Phadnis is hospitalized and on a ventilator; doctors are observing him. It is a different treatment, and I wouldn’t like to comment on it," he had told The Indian Express.
Shetty said that the actor had died because of liver damage and multiple organ failure, denying reports that he had died of a cardiac arrest. "There were a lot of complications and he was removed from ventilator last night," Shetty said.
Phadnis rose to fame after playing of the role of Fredericks in the show, which was first aired in 1998 and ran for two decades-one of the longest ever shows to have ran on Indian television.
Additionally, Phadnis also appeared on the sitcom "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" and played supporting roles in movies such as "Sarfarosh" and "Super 30".
The last episode of "CID" aired in October 2018 and lead actor Shivaji Satam had expressed disappointment at its abrupt end. "It is like someone has cut off an organ from our body," Satam said to Mumbai Mirror.
