Diwali, celebrated with fervour across India and many parts of the world, is all set to grace us on November 12, 2023. Referred to as the "Festival of Lights," Diwali not only illuminates the night sky but also our hearts, symbolizing happiness, wealth, prosperity, and warmth.

Origin and Significance
Rooted in the depths of Hindu culture, Diwali's origins can be traced back to the luni-solar month of Kartik. This festival finds its roots in the ancient texts and legends of India. It is believed to be the day Lord Rama returned to his kingdom Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. The people of Ayodhya, overjoyed by his return, lit lamps to illuminate his path, thus establishing the tradition of lighting lamps during Diwali.

Diwali holds profound significance as it represents the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. It's a time for individuals to cleanse their homes and hearts, let go of grudges, and start anew. Families come together, exchange gifts, and engage in acts of charity. Goddess Lakshmi is also significant during Diwali with many people offering puja to the Goddess on this day. In Bengal, the Goddess Kali is worshipped during Diwali and Kali Puja.

Muhurat and Celebrations
As the sun sets on November 12, the most auspicious time for Diwali puja will dawn, during a period known as 'pradosh.' This selection is based on the presence of the Amavasya tithi (new moon) during pradosh. It is believed that no other Diwali puja muhurat is as auspicious as the one during pradosh, even if it is available for only one ghati, which is approximately 24 minutes.

Homes are adorned with intricate rangoli designs, and a kaleidoscope of lights and lanterns adorns the streets. Families burst fireworks that light up the night sky in a display of colours. Feast is prepared in every household, and everyone dons their finest attire for this special occasion.
