Delhi society's notice on 'excessive' online deliveries: 'Bachelor's getting 10-15 orders daily'

The notice explains that the society's security personnel, who have been helpful in the past by receiving deliveries on behalf of residents, are now overwhelmed by the sheer volume of parcels.

A viral post on social media is causing a stir after a Delhi residential society issued a notice asking residents to limit the number of online deliveries they receive daily. The notice, dated September 18, from the RWA (Residents’ Welfare Association) of an unnamed society, raised eyebrows after one X user shared it, captioning: “Society presidents are insane! My cousin’s building got a warning for receiving too many parcels in a day.”

The notice, addressed to residents of the society’s F-block, explains that the society's security personnel, who have been helpful in the past by receiving deliveries on behalf of residents, are now overwhelmed by the sheer volume of parcels, especially during the festive season.

The RWA specifically highlighted that bachelors residing in F-block have been getting 10-15 orders daily through platforms like Ajio, Swiggy, and others. The association urged residents to restrict their orders to one or two per day or 'hire a personal security guard' to coordinate with delivery personnel.

The notice states, “The security team has been very helpful in the past by receiving orders on peoples’ behalf, sharing OTPs, and coordinating with delivery personnel, but recently this has been causing them a lot of trouble.” The RWA’s plea comes as parcel volumes spike with the festive season around the corner, burdening security guards further.

Split Opinion on Delivery Rules

The post quickly gained traction, amassing over 4,90,000 views and 5,100 likes. Many users jumped into the conversation, with opinions sharply divided.

One user commented, “They have a point. In India, we think that a security guard is in charge of everything. Don’t treat him like your baggage collector.” Another user added, “That is a reasonable request. Who gets 10-15 parcels a day?”

Security guards, often expected to handle deliveries and verify OTPs on behalf of residents, are finding themselves swamped, especially as festive shopping picks up pace.

Some, however, found the society's stance overbearing. One comment read, “Ridiculous! They are the ones screening entrants into the building and making it compulsory. Will they next say limit ordering from outside during the festive season!?”

Another user humorously quipped, “Festive season mei hamare Ajio ke orders nahi aayenge to kab aayenge.” (If our Ajio orders won’t come during the festive season, then when?)

While some supported the notice, pointing out that it was only asking for consideration of the workload faced by the security guards, others found it impractical, with one user sarcastically stating, “Imagine hiring a security guard for receiving online orders.”
