Over half of the candidates fumble during job interviews and bungle even the most elementary questions, a report said.

According to the study conducted by JobBuzz.in on 515 employers across various industries, over half the candidates interviewed by recruiters come unprepared.

Around 52 percent respondents said the question on which candidates tend to slip the most was explaining current job responsibilities.

Another 20 percent said candidates fumble the most when asked to explain how they are the best fit for the job with the company, while 18 percent said candidates mess up when asked to explain their skill sets.

The study noted that 77 percent of IT, telecom, ITeS and dotcom employers and 65 percent of automobile sector employers admit that well over 50 percent of candidates make mistakes in interviews.

Around 70 percent of banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) employers said that 40-50 percent candidates interviewed monthly tend to fumble in interviews while 72 percent employers in manufacturing and retail say that between 20-40 percent interviewees mess up on basic questions.

Failing to do research about the company is the most common blunder, a whopping 72 percent of the employers said.

Other careless mistakes include not appearing interested, passionate or engaged (as reported by 50 percent employers) and not dressing appropriately for the interview, say 43 percent of the employers referenced.

Over-exaggerating and lying about achievements is another mistake that job seekers tend to make during interviews, 36 percent of the employers said.
