With Barack Obama speaking of "deteriorating" investment climate in India, communist leader Brinda Karat today accused the US of mounting pressure on the country to pave the way for retail chains like Walmart to set up shop.

"This is pressure tactics by America in order to make way for retail chains like Walmart into the country. The UPA government should not bend under the pressure," Karat said.

Reacting to US President Barak Obama's recent remarks that it was still hard to invest in India in too many sectors, including retail, she said, "We have strong objections to such statements."
