A protest in Mumbai against riots in Assam on Saturday turned violent with demonstrators torching a vehicle, damaging buses and indulging in stone - pelting which prompted the police to fire in the air. However, there was no report of any casualty.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Azad Maidan in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon following a call by a city-based organisation Raza Academy to denounce the violence in Assam. The protesters suddenly turned violent and torched a media vehicle and damaged buses. They also pelted stones. "The police opened fire in the air and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the mob," said a policeman deployed at the Azad Maidan.
