Retail fuel prices across metro cities touch record highs as state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) hiked petrol and diesel prices on May 11. Petrol price in the national capital was hiked by 27 paise per litre and 30 paise per litre for diesel.
After the hike, the rates in Delhi were at Rs 91.80 per litre for petrol and Rs 82.36 per litre for diesel, according to data from Indian Oil Corporation. In Mumbai, the prices increased to Rs 98.12 per litre and Rs 89.48 per litre for petrol and diesel, respectively.
Oil marketing companies (OMCs) hiked fuel prices across metropolitan cities on May 4, for the first time since February 23, with the assembly elections being held in the intervening period.
Consumers in Chennai will now have to shell out Rs 93.62 per litre for petrol and Rs 87.25 per litre for diesel. In Kolkata, the prices reached Rs 91.92 per litre for petrol and Rs 85.20 per litre for diesel.
Rates of petrol in some parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have crossed the Rs 100 mark. In Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan, petrol touched Rs 102.70 a litre, prices from oil companies showed. In Anuppur of Madhya Pradesh, petrol now costs Rs 102.40 while it is priced at Rs 100.46 a litre in Parbhani, Maharashtra.
Crude prices climbed more than 1 percent on May 10 after a major cyber attack that forced the shutdown of critical fuel supply pipelines in the United States, highlighting the fragility of oil infrastructure, Reuters had reported. US gasoline prices jumped nearly 2 percent while heating oil was up by more than 1 percent.
