A 50-year-old Chinese e-commerce entrepreneur, known online as “Sister Xin” has gone viral after marrying her son’s Russian classmate and subsequently announcing her pregnancy. The woman, a divorcee who raised her son and daughter independently, regularly shares her lavish daily life, including a suburban villa with a chef and a driver, to over 13,000 followers on Chinese social media platform, Douyin.
The unconventional romance blossomed six years ago when her son, Kaikai, invited three foreign classmates, including a Russian student named Defu, for a Lunar New Year dinner, South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported. Defu, who was in an advanced year compared to Kaikai and spoke fluent Chinese, was reportedly captivated by Sister Xin’s cooking and hospitality, extending his initial stay from one night to an entire week.
“I was still young and attractive then. Defu kept in touch with me, sending gifts and surprises over the years,” SCMP quoted Sister Xin as saying. Despite a significant age gap of over 20 years and a one-foot height difference (Defu is 6'3''), Sister Xin initially dismissed his advances, citing cultural differences and her past failed marriage. But, with her son’s encouragement, she eventually embraced the relationship. The couple officially registered their marriage earlier this year and have since travelled extensively throughout China.
On June 8, Sister Xin announced her pregnancy via a video on social media. In it, she stated, "Older pregnancies come with risks, but being with Defu makes it worth it.”
When online users questioned the legitimacy of their relationship, she added, "Time will prove our love."
The baby is reportedly due next spring, and Sister Xin confirmed they have already purchased a cot in eager anticipation.
