Billionaire friends Bill Gates and Warren Buffett each own the elusive McDonald's Gold Card which grants its holder free meals. Although the use of most of these cards are limited to local venues, like for example, Buffett's card allows him to eat for free at McDonald's outlets in Omaha, the one Gates owns gives him free access to food at any McDonald's outlet in the world.
During an interview with CNBC in 2007, Warren Buffett displayed his McDonald's Gold Card and revealed how he uses it.
Pulling out the card from his wallet during the interview, the Berkshire Hathaway chairperson said, "And, ah, here we have my McDonald's card which lets me eat free at any McDonald's in Omaha for the rest of my life. So that's why the Buffett family has Christmas dinner at McDonald's. It explains a lot of things."
Buffett also said that while his card is restricted to Omaha, Gates' card can be used worldwide. "There's just a few of them. Bill Gates has one. His is good throughout the world, I guess. Mine is only good in Omaha, but I never leave Omaha so mine is just as good as his," Benzinga quoted him as saying.
The Gold Cards were given to two of the richest people in the world as a testament to McDonald's appreciation of them as Buffett is known to enjoy the simplicity and convenience of the fast-food giant while Gates has in a recent blogpost called cheeseburgers his "favorite food".
McDonald's hasn't, however, revealed the exact number of Gold cardholders across the world and has been tight-lipped about who else might be part of this exclusive club.
