A Bengaluru man has served a legal notice to the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) regarding the poor condition of roads. Doctorate professor Dr Kiran Jeevan, 43, said that the "deplorable" roads caused him significant physical pain and considerable mental stress. He has also demanded compensation of Rs 50 lakh for his medical expenses, and an additional Rs 10,000 to cover his legal expenses
In a statement to the press, the professor emphasised that he decided to sue the civic body in support of many others who "silently suffer from back and neck pain caused by these hazardous roads". "It is not just a personal grievance, but a collective one that demands urgent attention," he stated.
In his legal notice, the Richmond Town resident said that he had experienced extreme pain, especially in his neck, trauma, and suffering while commuting through Bengaluru roads, which are riddled with deep potholes, broken and uneven pathways, and unmotorable road surfaces.
"My client states that despite being a tax-paying citizen with a right to safe public infrastructure, he has been subjected to continuous physical hardship and mental agony as a result of BBMP's blatant failure to maintain basic civic infrastructure," Dr Jeevan's lawyer stated his his legal notice. He added that the professor suffered severe neck and back pain, "which has been medically linked to the jerks and trauma caused while commuting on these treacherous roads".
Consulted 5 orthopedic specialists, 4 emergency visits to the hospital
Dr Jeevan said he had to consult five orthopedic specialists and made four emergency visits to the hospital to relieve acute pain and has been taking painkillers and other medications to manage the condition.
The pain has been so intense that the 43-year-old has lost sleep over it, affecting his well-being, daily functioning, and personal and professional commitments
He is also unable to use autos and two-wheelers.
"Due to BBMP's gross negligence and failure in discharging its public duty, he is undergoing continuing physical agony, emotional trauma, and financial burden, therefore he demands a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for medical expenses (past and anticipated), emotional distress and mental anguish, physical suffering and loss of normal life, costs of travel for medical consultations," the legal notice stated, demanding an additional Rs 10,000 to cover the legal charges.
