The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for the role of head coach of the senior national men’s team on Monday. Current coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure is all set to come to an end after the T20 World Cup in June. While former players such as VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble are possible candidates, diehard cricket fans were also not behind in applying for the role.
The BCCI shared the announcement for the coveted position on X and also included a link with all the information regarding the qualifications required. The richest cricket board also set a deadline of May 27 for applying for the top job. “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invites applications for the position of Head Coach (Senior Men),” the caption of the post read.

On a light-hearted note, nothing stopped enthusiastic cricket fans from applying for the prestigious role and hilarity ensued.
“Sir, can I apply for the head coach position? I hold the record for winning 15 matches in a row in my locality,” one user questioned.
Another optimistic user wrote, “Submitted my application form. Hopefully under my expert coaching and guidance, India lifts the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.”
“Hope to receive response soon,” a third user chimed in. A fourth user commented, “Time to fulfill my destiny.”
Meanwhile, according to the BCCI, the role would be for a time period of 3.5 years from July 1, 2024 to December 31, 2027. Dravid's tenure will come to an end post the T20 World Cup which ends on June 29.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, had confirmed that Rahul Dravid is eligible to re-apply for the position but his tenure won't automatically be extended.
Rahul Dravid took over as the head coach of the senior national men's team in December 2021.
