British composer and music producer David Lowe took to TikTok and X to share how he composed the iconic BBC News theme. In the video, Lowe explained all the steps that he went through for its creation to mark its 25th anniversary.
The theme, which has become a British anthem over the years, is still catchy and relevant today. In the now-viral clip, Lowe shared how he compiled the tunes together. “I did it with this sound [the beep sound played] - this is the pip or the beep we call it, it's got that sense of accuracy and reliability because it's clock ticking one beat every second,” he said.
He said that the bass line was added to “give the sense of strength and solidity and depth” and then added bass drums as well. “Then we wanted a big sound for the headlines and came up with this big drum,” he added.
"25 years ago, I composed the @BBCNews Theme Tune, which is broadcast around the world everyday. From the precise beeps of time to the powerful bass and dramatic drums for the headlines. This how I did it," the 65-year-old wrote in the caption of the post.

Since being shared on Friday, the video has amassed close to seven lakh views and hundreds of comments from social media users.
"Great work David. I notice your name on the credits for many iconic TV themes," one user wrote. Another user commented, "Awesome! By far the the best theme tune for any news show."
"My stepdad loved this so much we had it played at his funeral!" a third user remarked.
A fourth user added, "Still ultra-modern to this day. Always was a fan of the string chords, they make it newsy for me. Great to see it on Logic again since last seeing you in Salford in 2016!"
