An American entrepreneur, Anthony Klor, founder of Catoff Gaming, recently encountered an unsettling experience while hiring in India. Based in Bengaluru, Klor shared on the social media platform X a disturbing exchange he had with a job applicant he had to reject.
Klor, who recently relocated to Bengaluru from San Francisco, posted a screenshot of the abusive messages he received from the disgruntled applicant on X. The content revealed a shocking level of hostility, with the applicant demanding Klor apologise to his mother for giving birth to him and using a swear word.
Klor later asked the applicant if he was still interested in the job, to which he received another vulgar reply: “Yes in a b***-job from a foreigner's mouth named Tony [sic].”
Klor captioned his post, "Sometimes job candidates in India don’t take rejection very well…" He also sought clarification on the meaning of the Hindi swear word used by the jobseeker.
The post sparked a wave of reactions from users, who expressed their shock and dismay at the applicant’s behaviour. One user offered a humorous translation of the insult: “It means, ‘thanks for considering me, but I’m not qualified to work as a professional’.” Another speculated on the applicant’s state of mind, suggesting, “I guess he is frustrated with his life.”
"Give away his credentials. he is not fit to work anywhere," one user remarked. Some users apologised on behalf of their fellow countrymen. One wrote, “Sorry you had to go through all this."
However, a small section of users also questioned Klor about how everything actually began. "Well, you're the one who brought his mother into this conversation. So, it seems you started it," a user wrote.
Another user added, "No recruiter has told me 'Should I call your mother and apologise' as well. This is not the entire story."
