Intel’s general manager for the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), Steve Long, on January 9 announced that he is leaving the company. This comes less than a month after his India visit for the Intel ConnectION event held in Bengaluru, ahead of the chipmaker’s launch of Meteor Lake processors.
Long is an Intel veteran having worked with the company for over 24 years. During his two-decade-long tenure, he has worked across seven different locations and he has been on four different international assignments in various roles, he shared in a LinkedIn post.
“I love Intel, the company strategy is on track & Asia-Pacific-Japan is one of the best jobs in the industry… but settling for stability & certainty has never been my thing. My hunger to learn/grow, with an innate ambition to pursue has led me to make the hardest decision of my life... & deciding to leave, after such a long period,” he said.
While the company is yet to announce a leader who would take over the role, for now, Santhosh Viswanathan, VP & MD, India Region, Intel will be taking over his responsibilities, a source in the know told Moneycontrol.
Moneycontrol couldn't ascertain Long's last date of work.
Long added, “~24 years of biz achievements are great. I am very proud of the results, the relationships & the impact we have had in the market. But, it is the people's memories that matter.”
He ended his post quoting writer Maya Angelou, “People will forget what you said, they will forget what you did – but they will forever remember how you made them feel”.
Earlier in August 2023, during Intel’s Tech Tour 2023, Long had said that APJ is core to driving the company’s 2025 growth targets of reaching product and technology leadership. Within APJ, India is the fastest growing market, he had said.
