Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for railways, electronics and information technology, and communications, was speaking at News18’s Rising Bharat Summit on March 19.

Union Minister of IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on March 19 said that the first 'Made in India' chip will be available in the market by December 2024. He was speaking at the latest edition of News18 Network’s leadership event, ‘News18 Rising Bharat Summit’, which is being held in New Delhi on March 19 and 20.

He further said that the country has become an electronics hub. Around $1 billion worth of telecommunication equipment is being exported from India, the minister added.

Last week, the minister had said the first made-in-India chips from the chip manufacturing plant of Tata Electronics and CG Power in Dholera, Gujarat will be out in the market by the end of 2026.

“The first chip from Dholera will be out in December 2026. The chip from Micron’s plant will be out by December 2024. The country will be among the top five chip ecosystems in the world by 2029,” Vaishnaw had said at the plant inauguration event.

On the railways, he claimed that before 2014 the sector was used as a political tool. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has created the foundation for the growth of Indian railways in the last 10 years. "Railway employees are very happy about the future planning of Indian Railways," the minister said.
