Mahindra & Mahindra has given its first premium sports utility vehicle (SUV) XUV500 a second makeover since its launch in 2011. Priced at Rs 12.32 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) the facelift is priced Rs 40,000 lower compared to the outgoing version.
The top-end variant W11 is priced at Rs 16.68 lakh for the manual transmission and Rs 17.88 lakh for the automatic variant. This is again a significant reduction compared to its earlier price of Rs 18.82 lakh. The vehicle will be available at showrooms with immediate effect.
There aren’t any significant level of changes made to the vehicle given its strong popularity as the platform and engine option largely remains the same.
However, the Mumbai-based company has offered one turbo-diesel motor for the top-end version. On offer is a 155bhp engine which electronically controls the turbocharger. This has resulted in a 10 per cent increase power along with a slight increase in fuel efficiency.
On the exterior the XUV gets an updated grille with chrome garnish, an altered front bumper, new triangular tail-lamps and a restyled tailgate with chrome accents. Tyres get diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Its interiors get a black and faux aluminium on the center console. The infotainment system has been updated to sync with a smart watch. The vehicle gets a soft-touch leather on dashboard and door-trims, tan leather seats, connected apps & ecosense technology.
The Mahindra XUV500 competes against the Hyundai Tucson, Tata Hexa and Jeep Compass. This segment of SUVs sees average monthly volumes of 8,000-9,000. The Compass is presently the leader in this segment clocking around 3,500 units a month while the XUV500 clocks around 2500-3,000 units a month.
