Under national mission PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive), as many as 11 projects worth Rs 284.53 crore have been sanctioned so far, while 25 projects worth Rs 2,048 crore have been approved under Swadesh Darshan scheme, the release said.
The Minister said in 2011-12, on an average foreign tourists in India used to stay 20-22 days at a stretch which has come down to 18-20 days now.
To promote tourism, the Ministry provides assistance for large revenue generating projects and infrastructure development, among others. In the last fiscal (2014-15), two schemes - Swadesh Darshan and National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) - were launched.
