TMC leader Subrata Mukherjee died after prolonged illness at a state-run hospital in Kolkata on November 4
On May 17, CBI arrested four senior Trinamool Congress leaders in the Narada sting operation case shot in 2014. The leaders include Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, former mayor Sovan Chatterjee and ex-transport minister Madan Mitra; however no CBI action was taken against two other accused in the case, Mukul Roy and Suvendu Adhikari, who are now in BJP.
Central Minister Babul Supriyo has lost from the Tollygunge assembly constituency, being defeated by veteran TMC leader and current West Bengal Public Works and Youth Affairs Minister Aroop Biswas. Two other incumbent BJP MPs, Locket Chatterjee and Swapan Dasgupta has lost from the Chunchura and Tarakeshwar constituency.
Senior Trinamool leader Subrata Mukherjee said if the BJP tries to harm West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is the “mother of crores of citizens, we (party leaders and party workers) will shed our blood to stop that from happening”.
The loan would help the TMC government complete projects in around 3,500 villages, quite a few of which lie in the tribal Jangalmahal districts of Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore, he added. The minister, however, refused to comment on whether the loan appeal to World Bank had been lined up keeping in mind next year's Assembly elections.
