India mounted a sharp rebuttal against Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council on Monday, with its Permanent Representative Parvathaneni Harish accusing Islamabad of spreading falsehoods, using terrorism as an instrument of state policy, and interfering in India’s internal affairs.
Responding to remarks by Pakistan’s envoy, Harish said Islamabad had presented a “false and self-serving account” of India’s military action, Operation Sindoor, carried out in May last year. He said Pakistan continued to issue threats against India until May 9, but the following day its military reached out directly to seek a halt in hostilities, adding that images of damage to Pakistani air bases were already in the public domain.
Harish strongly rejected Pakistan’s attempts to frame terrorism as a “new normal” in the region. “We have heard talk from the representative of Pakistan about the new normal. Let me reiterate again that terrorism can never be normalised as Pakistan wishes to do. It is not normal to tolerate Pakistan's continued use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy. This hallowed chamber cannot become a forum for Pakistan to legitimise terrorism,” he said.

Reaffirming India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir, Harish said Pakistan had no standing to comment on matters internal to India. “Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on matters that are internal to India. The Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” he said.
On the Indus Waters Treaty, Harish said India had signed the agreement 65 years ago in good faith but accused Pakistan of repeatedly violating its spirit through wars and terror attacks.
“Throughout the six and a half decades, Pakistan has violated the spirit of the treaty by inflicting three wars and thousands of terror attacks on India. Thousands of Indian lives have been lost in Pakistan-sponsored terror attacks,” he said.
He said India was compelled to place the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan ended its support for cross-border terrorism. “India was compelled to finally announce that the treaty will be held in abeyance until Pakistan, a global epicentre of terror, credibly and irrevocably ends its support for cross-border and all other forms of terrorism,” Harish said.
Calling on Pakistan to reflect on its own governance, Harish urged Islamabad to introspect on the rule of law and questioned constitutional changes that he said had strengthened military control. He concluded by stressing the need for accountability and stronger international mechanisms to combat terrorism and uphold global peace and security.
