Briefing Nepal's Parliament on Prime Minister Modi's two-day state visit, Oli said the visit has elevated bilateral ties to new heights.
Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot alleged that the prime minister had timed his visit to the Himalayan nation on the Karnataka poll date, and was "giving a message to Hindus" in the southern state.
"Janakpur and Ayodhya are being connected. This is a historic moment," Prime Minister Modi said while inaugurating the bus service, connecting Lord Rama's birthplace Ayodhya with goddess Sita's birthplace Janakpur.
Speaking at a civic reception by the Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City at Barhabigha ground here, Modi briefly spoke in Nepali and Maithili.
India has an open border with Nepal and tens of thousands of Nepalis work in India. The neighbours share close religious and cultural bonds.

The prime minister exuded confidence that his visit will further cement people-centric partnership with Nepal on the basis of mutual benefit, goodwill and understanding.
"These high-level and regular interactions reflect my government's commitment to the 'neighbourhood first' policy, in consonance with the motto of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas'," the statement said.
"Nepal Telecom has increased the termination charges from Rs 3.15 per minute to Rs 7.80 per minute with effect from December 1, 2017. This increase in termination charges by Nepal Telecom resulted in increase of the call rate from India to Nepal (from Rs 6 per minute to Rs. 12 per minute) with effect from December 12, 2017," BSNL said in a statement.
Investment Board Nepal recently granted the licence to Satluj Jala Vodyut Nigam Power Development Company.

"This visit of the Prime Minister to Nepal will be taking place on May 11 and 12. Apart from Kathmandu, the possibility of a visit to Janakpur and Muktinath is being explored," he told reporters.
The blast comes at a time when preparations are going on for laying foundation stone of the project by Modi during his official visit to Nepal on May 11.
In a statement, Siemens said NEA has selected it for upgrading its Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition/ Energy Management System (SCADA/EMS) at its Load Dispatch Center (LDC) in Kathmandu.
Oli is scheduled to attend the convocation ceremony at around 1 pm
His comments came in the backdrop of India's concerns regarding China's growing influence over Nepal
The Nepalese Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli is in India on a three-day visit, his first overseas tour after taking charge as Nepal's PM for the second term.
Welcoming Oli in a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan, Kovind said he was happy to note that this was his first visit abroad after his appointment as the prime minister of Nepal.
Nepal has a strong government at the centre, and stable government gives stability and continuity in policy regime, he said here at the India-Nepal Business Forum meet organised by industry chambers, including CII.
In a written response to a question, V K Singh, minister of state in the External Affairs Ministry, said India gave a grant of Rs 2,088.19 crore to Afghanistan, a country torn by war and insurgency, between 2014 and 2018 (until January).
Citing sources at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi and officials at India's External Affairs Ministry, the paper said that dates of Prime Minister Oli's India visit have been "under active consideration" since he assumed office more than a month ago.
Pradeep Gyawali, who was inducted on Friday, also said that the Nepal government had started preparations as it expects both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit the country this year.
Earlier, Oli had called on all political parties to support the government. The Nepali Congress had said it would not support Oli and play the role of an effective opposition
During the meeting, Abbasi said he was positive to take forward the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) process.
CPN-UML secured only 121 seats in the 275-member Parliament, which is short of minimum 50 per cent plus seats to garner majority support.
