A number of private firms that were issued licences for opening vends in Delhi, under the excise policy 2021-22, were accused of wrongdoing by the probe agencies CBI and ED.
The liquor cases, containing 1,440 litres of alcohol, were being transported in the vehicle by hiding it under coconuts an official said.
The Delhi government on Sunday decided to extend the retail licences for one month. The Excise department will issue an order to this effect after Lt Governor V K Saxena’s nod to the Delhi Cabinet decision.
"The department cancelled the tender for the supply of country liquor in 2022-23 after it was found that the bidders were suspectedly pooling their resources to keep the highest bid low," said an official.
In two separate orders, the department stated that the licensees under different categories can pay a pro rata fee for the extended period.
