The standoff was triggered by mass deletions from the electoral rolls under the SIR process ahead of the Bengal Assembly election scheduled for April 23 and 29.

Describing the matter as a "lapse", the official said the poll panel has issued directions to the DGP to ensure corrective measures at the earliest.

The poll panel did not provide details on the total number of deletions or inclusions in the second list.
The Court subsequently directed that the case be listed on April 7 before a separately designated Bench.
The commission said the directions are to be implemented with immediate effect, and a compliance report regarding the joining of the officers must be submitted by 11 am on March 19.
